If you would prefer to not give your dog a strong anti-biotic to treat its urinary tract infection (UTI), there are natural treatments for a dog urinary tract infection available.
However, before you try one of these natural treatments for a dog UTI, be sure to discuss it with your veterinarian. This is because your vet is best qualified to analyze your dog's UTI and prescribe the treatment that will cure the infection the quickest and with the fewest side effects.

Natural Herb Treatments
There are also natural herbs available that are said to help with a dog urinary tract infection. As an example of this, you can give your dog garlic. Just sprinkle it on its meal. Garlic can be very effective in removing your dog’s infections.
Another herb that may help is Rosehip. This herb contains a high amount of iron and also has high levels of vitamin C. Together, the two could help alleviate the urinary tract infection. Uva Ursi and Buchu are two other herbs that may be able to cure your dog's urinary tract infection. Uva Ursi is said to increase your dog's vitality and Buchu is thought by many to be the best natural remedy for UTI in dogs.
Finally, the herb Cantharis can be used to alleviate the dog’s pain when it attempts to urinate.
Goldenrod Horsetail Compound
This is an herbal tincture, which contains corn silk, Goldenrod, horsetail, juniper berry and pipsissewa leaf. The easiest way to give this tincture is to mix it with its food. If your dog weighs 15 pounds or less you can treat it with half a dropper full of the tincture twice a day until the dog is doing better. If you have a larger dog, use between one and two droppers full a day.
Dog Urinary Tract Infection Home Remedies
There are also some home remedies that might be helpful for treating dog urinary tract infections.
One of the best of these is apple cider vinegar. This is a very popular home remedy not only for dog UTIs, but also for our urinary tract infections. To use the vinegar, just add 1/2 teaspoon of it to your dog's food once per day. You can also add it to the dog’s water for three straight days. The reason that this home remedy works is because it neutralizes the bacteria in your dog's urine and also helps reduce the discomfort your dog experiences as a result of this condition.
Another good home remedy is to give your dog citrus juices. You can use orange juice, cranberry juice or lime juice. These juices will increase the acidity in your dog’s urine. As the urine becomes more acidic, there will be fewer bacteria in it. Since dogs usually will not drink citrus juice, you may have to give it in small doses.
Be sure to give your dog plenty of clean water. Water is nature's way of cleansing the dog’s system. Also make sure your dog has easy access to the water. If it drinks more water, it will urinate more often which helps flush out the bacteria.
Chemical-Free Dog Food
If you read the label on the commercial food you feed your dog, you might be a bit surprised. Many of these commercial dog foods contain harmful preservatives, chemical additives and artificial colors. These chemicals can actually weaken your dog's immunity system. If your dog has a UTI or suffers from recurring UTIs, try to give it home-cooked food or at least an all-natural dog food.
In short, there are a number of natural treatments for a dog urinary tract infection available. However, again, be sure to check with your vet before you begin any of these dog UTI treatments. The reason for this is that the wrong treatment could simply prolong the UTI or even cause it to suffer from serious complications.
